The Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has resigned from his position after a corruption inquiry linked him and his close associates to using taxpayer money to pay for manipulated opinion polls and for bribing a popular tabloid for favorable media coverage. Initially, Kurz was refusing to resign but the prospect of a no-confidence vote forced his hand. So, what does his resignation mean for Austria? And what will be the future of his politics?

Un soir d‘ été. Tout est calme et paisible en Autriche. Soudain, j‘ apprends qu‘ il y a une fusillade à Munich en plein centre de la ville. Je suis stupéfaite et essaye tout de suite de joindre par téléphone mes collègues journalistes au Münchner Merkur. journal ou je suis la correspondante Autrichienne. Après les attentats de Paris en janvier et novembre 2016, après Bruxelles en janvier 2016, puis Nice la semaine dernière 14 Juillet, suivi de l’attaque à la hache dans un train en direction de Würzburg, mon téléphone sonne. Il est 22h15. Ce sont les collègues de BFMTV en France qui veulent savoir, si j‘ en sais plus. A 22h35 voici l‘ interview que je leur ai donnée:

Le lendemain matin j‘ ‚ai été interviewée une deuxième fois par les collègues de BFMTV. La situation s‘ est précisée: on savait déjà qu‘ il n‘ y avait que un seul auteur et qu‘ il s‘ était suicidé pendant la nuit. La question restait de savoir s‘ il s‘ agissait d‘ un attentat avec un lien terroriste ou au contraire d‘ un sympathisant du tueur de Utoya, Anders Breivik, qui en 2011 avait assasiné 69 personnes. Par la suite on découvrira que le jeune homme de 18 ans, au nom de Ali David Sonboli, de nationalité Germano-Iranien, vivant à Munich, avait prémédité son geste de longue date.
